Saying Goodbye to Thailand

Day 10  Monday, April 9, 2018  Pattaya and Airport The view from our 4th floor hotel. On our final morning, we visited this pool, and also went looking for lunch. But that ended poorly... We ate our incredible buffet breakfast there at the right, with this beautiful atrium to enjoy.  We then wandered to other parts of our hotel, and the views were super. They had about five swimming pools there. Time for us to relax at the main pool. I actually swam in the pool! For lunch, we decided to take the shuttle to the far end of the bay to where we THOUGHT there would be some cool places to eat. Instead, it was the opposite - a run-down area. Funny to again see all the electrical wires that we had seen in Bangkok and other cities. So, we decided to board the shuttle again to move farther back toward our hotel, but they would not pick us up. We would say where we were headed, but the driver would say something in Thai that we didn't understand, but the upshot was the

Day 9  Sunday, April 8, 2018   Pattaya We spent a leisurely day on the beach of an island just off the coast. Commercialized fun, here in Pattaya. We shuttled from our hotel right after breakfast down the beach a ways to where a big speed boat was awaiting to zoom us across the bay. The entire curved bay had this wide walkway and palm trees. We're waiting for our speed boat to load up. They had to steady the boat as best they could from the incoming wavelets, so that we all could step up the stern ladder and into the boat. It was pretty dicey if you weren't athletic! Check out all the para-sails out there! And that's our island we were headed to, on the far side. The bay was jam packed with speed boats going every which way, each with their lines pulling the parachutes. I thought for sure there would be entanglements.  We got up-front chaise lounge chairs to enjoy the relaxation and ocean views. Janet pulled her chair out into the sun. Nice long, wide bea

Day 8  Saturday, April 7, 2018  Ayutthaya and Pattaya We visited Wat Chai Wattanaram in the morning, and the most vivid memory we have is all the locals being photographed in 13th century Thai dress based on the highly popular TV series, Love Destiny . On the way to the temple, we stopped along the road to sample Roti, a crepe with either sweet or savory filling. Roti is a very popular street-vendor treat all over Thailand. She cooks three crepes at a time, and then we got to fill them with a variety of flavored, cotton-candy type fillings. We enjoyed the Roti! Our next stop was the old temple, still in ruins from the Burmese raids of 1767. This model shows what it looked like in its heyday. Janet was getting a photo from the other side! This view allows seeing all the various chedi and towers. Nu explained that a popular Thai soap opera, called Love's Destiny , has prompted a craze of Thais wanting to dress up in 13th-century clothes similar to what is worn
